New Zealand Sex-Ed Video Featuring Porn Stars Earns Praise

WELLINGTON, New Zealand—As part of a New Zealand initiative, a bold new video uses porn stars to illustrate the difference between what users see in online adult content and the real world of sex. The video, part of the “Keep It Real Online” series of public service advertisements released this past weekend, offers tips to get parents to talk to their young ones about real-life relationships and the importance of consent with a sexual partner.   The first video depicts two naked porn stars discussing topics like consent, realistic expectations of sex and the performative nature of online adult content. The new “Keep It Real Online” Facebook page discussing the videos had Allison Victoria-Wolfe from Canada saying, “Way to go! I think this is fantastic! What a terrific way to bring up the much-needed sex talk.” Indiana-based Garry Schaffel, meanwhile, said: “New Zealand is the country that all others should aspire to be. They are killing it on gun control, COVID response, and now teaching kids about real relationships.” Paired up with the series of videos, New Zealand has also released a government website that gives further tips on the topic of online porn. “There are lots of benefits for children and young people online, but they can also be targets of crime and exploitation. It is important to educate children and help them develop online safety skills so they can navigate the internet in a safe, happy and healthy way,” the campaign’s website reads. New Zealand’s campaign is led by the country’s Department of Internal Affairs and was developed with the Office of Film and Literature Classification, Netsafe and the Ministry of Education.
